The Charleston Lower Harbor and Entrance Channel requires routine operations and maintenance dredging to maintain authorized project depths. Maintenance dredge material must be evaluated periodically to determine if the material meets the criteria for disposal in the Charleston Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Site under Section 103 of the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act.

ANAMAR was contracted to conduct field sampling activities, sample processing, and shipment to US Army Corps of Engineers Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC).

ANAMAR prepared a Field Sampling Plan describing the field sampling operations and project-specific information based on the Sampling and Analysis Plan prepared by USACE Charleston District. The field team collected sediment grab samples from five dredged material management units and the reference station, as well as two site water samples. Sampling activities were able to proceed despite harsh winds and waves in the entrance channel.

ANAMAR homogenized and composited the collected grab samples and shipped them to ERDC in Vicksburg, MS. The final deliverable was a Field Sampling Report.
